Saturday morning, 20 August 2011, Mary and I checked out of our hotel and lugged the computer and our stuff back to the boat. We stowed the provisions the Mary Rose had given us and laboriously filled our water tank. We cast off at 1140 and went about 100 meters back upstream to fill our fuel tank. Then we were off on the final leg of our Danube adventure.
At mile 34 there is a fork in the river. The left branch goes to Sulina, the right branch goes into the delta and requires a special permit.
After that, much of the Sulina branch is like a ditch. You have to watch out for big ships, hydrofoils, and fast moving tour boats. (more…)
